About Us

Vidya, a special school for Special needs children has been running at Jagannath Bari Road, Agartala since January 2004. Initially it was a Branch of REACH, Golf Green, Kolkata. But, since July 2008, it is run by Vidya Welfare Society formed by parents/ guardians and a few well wishers and the society is a registered social service organization. At present there are 30 Nos. of special children studding in Vidya. These children are assessed and grouped according to the extent of their disablities and are given specific training on informal education and training on vocational conforming to their individual needs. Each child is given specific individual attention.

The aim of the school is to make these children as independent as possible and assimilate them in the main stream of the society. The school has ventured in to this field of difficult exercise to meet in a small way, the increasing needs of proper institutional special education to an unfortunate section of our young ones, as Govt. run proper institutions for such children are rather scarce. It is especially difficult as fund and resources are meager and the school is managing with nominal fees collected from students and uncertain charities from guardians and 3 (three) dully qualified Special educators (P.G. Diploma holder), 4 (four) Teaching Assistants and 2 (two) School mother. They are trying to ensure all round development of the school through their untiring efforts. It is from our belief that given proper help and guidance, these differently abled unfortunate young ones of our society can prove their worth one day and take their rightful place in the society despite their adversities with which thy were born. Our appeal therefore to one and all to spare a thought for this noble cause and join us in our effort.
